Pharmacy

Located at Riverview, the RVH Pharmacy Department serves the clinical and medication distributional needs of the patients of Riverview Hospital and the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (Colony Farm).

The service is an integrated system with responsibility for purchasing, storing, distributing and ensuring the safe use of drugs in the hospital. Clinical pharmacy is the term that describes those pharmacy activities which are patient oriented, the primary objective being the promotion of rational drug therapy and good pharmaceutical care.

Description of Services:

The service of Pharmacy is an integrated system with the primary objective being the promotion of rational drug therapy.

Riverview Hospital uses a modified Unit Dose system of drug distribution. Oral, solid-dosage form medications are provided in individual unit dose packages once a week, in patient-specific bins. Liquids, injections and PRN oral medications are ward stock. Riverview Pharmacy also supplies medications to the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital at Colony Farm.

Pharmacy provides Computer Generated Medication Administration Records for each patient at Riverview Hospital. The department also  monitors drug interactions for all Riverview patients through the pharmacy computer system. Drug information services are provided on request.
