What we do
The main focus of the clinic is to provide an individual psychiatric assessment or consultation using a family-centered approach. Following completion of the assessment, the clinic will make recommendations for ongoing care, if required, in the patient’s local community. Short-term treatment, including family therapy and parent support groups, may be offered by the clinic. The clinic accepts referrals from physicians. The first step in the referral process is a visit to the child’s family physician or pediatrician, who must then send a written referral to our intake coordinator. Please note that not all referrals are accepted as appropriate for this clinic, and sometimes these referrals will be redirected to community-based resources. If the referral is accepted for assessment, an information package that includes a questionnaire, map and consent forms will be sent to the family. Parents will be asked to send back the completed forms prior to the first appointment. The first appointment should be attended by both parents or guardians and the child. The initial assessment interview is usually 1 to 1 ½ hours, and additional 50-minute appointments are scheduled after the first meeting.
