About Us
In British Columbia, it has been estimated that 140,000 children and youth experience mental health disorders causing significant distress and impairing their functioning at home, at school, with their peers and in the community. It has also been estimated that the rate of substance abuse among BC's children and youth is 0.8% - or at any given time approximately 7,500 individuals.
These children and youth need help. The Kelty Resource Centre is designed to support BC children, youth and their families to find and use the resources they need in order to make informed decisions and gain access to appropriate services. The Centre, located at Children's Hospital in Vancouver but accessible from anywhere in the province, is a free, actual and virtual resource for all BC families.
The Centre offers information and resources on a wide range of mental health and substance use issues affecting children and youth in our province. These include, but are not limited to; depression, anxiety, attention deficit and behavioural problems, child/youth eating disorders and substance use. We also provide resources for adults with eating disorders.
The Kelty Resource Centre is part of an integrated provincial strategy to improve health literacy in mental health and addictions in British Columbia. The strategy was developed by the BC Mental Health and Addiction Services in consultation with Regional Health Authorities, BC Ministry of Health, BC Ministry of Children and Family Development, BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions Information and other community organizations.
